Museum of Victorian Children Assembly
by
Pontarddulais Primary

In Pontarddulais pupils were fully involved in the planning of their curriculum and their assembly. They are able to collaborate with others and identify what they know, and what they would like to learn. It is vital that the pupils have an opportunity to celebrate and share their learning with their families and the community. Our aim was to share their learning through creativity. The pupils decided to showcase their work by inviting their parents and members of the wider community into their class assembly.
Pupils took on various roles from people within the communities and key figures during the Victorian era, learning their lines, scripts and songs brilliantly. Pupils prepared their costumes with their parents and every member of the team made a very big effort.
Visitors were welcomed into the assembly, the children performed their parts, making the audience laugh and smile, bringing a tear to the eye of many a proud parent and grandparent.
It is essential that pupils understand why we learn and how this impacts on them and their lives, developing very many skills, without being aware, enjoying every moment, participating fully and pushing their boundaries, with an edge that sometimes takes them outside their comfort zones and enables them to be the best that they can be in all ways.
Our performance did all of this and more...pupils expressing their ideas, learning, emotions and creativity with the people that are most important to them and the wider school community.
The journey continues...
